As It’s Always Been

Walking from the croft, Loch Earn, Perthshire Highlands
Step beyond the croft, above Loch Earn, and the land opens out.

A track leads quietly into the hills with routes towards nearby Munros and Highland walking trails., rising gently at first, then unfolding into wider views across Loch Earn and the surrounding Highlands.

You can walk for an hour, or for the day.

Some take the higher ground, following old routes towards nearby Munros. Others move more slowly, pausing often, letting the landscape set the pace.

There is no single way to be here.

Deer move across the hillside. Oyster Catchers break silence over the loch. Weather shifts quickly, light moving across the water and back again. What matters is not distance, but the feeling of being within it.

Boots on.
Flask filled.
Time set aside.

From the croft, you step straight into it.
Stay at the Croft

Ben Vorlich a first Munroe

From Wester Auchraw Croft, it is close enough to be part of your stay, and spacious enough to feel like a day apart. It was the first Munro my children climbed. Not as a test, but as a day that unfolded.

  1. Park at the Coire Gabhail (Lost Valley) car park, just beyond the Three Sisters viewpoint on the A82.

  3. Follow the stream and boulder fields upward into the glen, using care during wet weather as the rocks can be slippery.
  4. After around 1.5 hours, reach the hidden flat basin known as the Lost Valley—an incredible, secluded valley once used by Clan MacDonald to hide rustled cattle.
  5. Return via the same route.
 Overview:
A breathtaking hike into one of Scotland’s most dramatic hidden landscapes. Nestled behind the towering ridges of Glencoe, the Lost Valley is both mythic and majestic. Perfect for adventurers looking for rugged beauty and a powerful connection to Highland legend.
